The NGO working for women in Goa, Bailancho Saad has condemned the incident of gruesome rape and murder of a young girl in Telangana.
Mentioning two separate incidents, convenor of Bailancho Saad Sabina Martins highlighted the shocking trend in Goa where complainants of rape have been harassed by the police by filing false cases.
In one incident, a mother had complained of the rape of her minor daughter. The helpline number did not respond to her till Bailancho Saad intervened, Martins said.
Shockingly the police have registered a chapter case against the rape complainant, she added.
Martins informed that in another case, a rape survivor who went to the police station to enquire was beaten, arrested and a false case was registered against her and no action has been taken by the concerned police officers.
Martins said that Bailancho Saad demands that the false case registered by the police against the rape complainants be withdrawn immediately and that a head to the Human Rights Commission be appointed immediately.
Serious attempts should be made to stop crimes, she said.
Martins also informed that on the occasion of international day of elimination of violence against women, which Bailancho Saad will be observing for a fortnight (until December 10), the NGO will take stock of crimes against women and plan strategies.
