Vested interests out to tarnish image: Loyola school bodies

MARGAO

Saying that vested interests are out to tarnish the image of Loyola  High School post assault incident, school bodies, including the PTA,  ex-students and teachers have said the truth will come out saying they  have full faith in the judiciary while exuding confidence that justice  will finally prevail.

Members of the Loyola PTA, teachers and ex-students under the banner of LESA addressed a joint media conference on Friday.

A  teacher, Belinda Jacques urged the parents to walk hand in hand in the  mission to make the students into man that others will look up to,  imitate and follow. “We know that there are vested interests, but as  part of the management that has always been abiding by the motto of this  great institution, we take it in our stride and move forward,” she  said.

Belinda added: “We accept that children have a streak of  naughtiness in them. But, when it crosses certain boundaries and goes  beyond control, we are bound by rules and so admonishing children  becomes difficult. This is the time we are forced to call parents.  Parents at times ignore messages from teachers or refuse to come to meet  us,” she told the media that officials of the education department has  started an inquiry into the assault incident.

A representative of the  PTA Lyndon D’Silva said that no teacher or parent will support corporal  punishment, adding “we need to support the efforts of Loyola  institution and if necessary bring in changes from within so that we can  make our students the pride of our society.” “We PTA executive want to  clarify and put it forward that the PTA is always available to all the  parents,” Lyndon said.

In his address, LESA  president Eric Pereira said Fr Basil who has served this institution in  various capacities, had been  supportive to us in carrying out all our projects.
