Ailing Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who is the target of intense criticism from the Opposition, some allies and civil society for his health-related absence from office, held follow-up meetings with senior officials of the Finance and Personnel departments and cleared some 70-odd pending harness cases.
Parrikar, who had met separately with some bureaucrats and MLAs of his party on Saturday, had reportedly directed the fast-tracking of the government recruitment processes.
A top bureaucrat who attended Sunday’s meeting told The Goan, that the Chief Minister cleared the hiring in 70-odd cases of jobs to kin of government servants who died in-service.
Parrikar also directed the officials to accept the proposals of his cabinet colleagues to decentralise the recruitment processes and permit individual departments to themselves conduct the hiring, including holding recruitment tests.
Past practices involved the government recruitment through a centralised process by which holding of recruitment tests was outsourced and entrusted to third-party agencies such as the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education and the GEDC (Goa Education Development Corporation).
