Reduce LPG prices or we will come on the streets: Pratima

Panaji

In view of the hike in gas cylinder prices, the Mahila Congress on Friday gave a clarion call to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to subsidise the rates within a week, failing which the Mahila Congress will hit the streets in protest.

Addressing media persons, Mahila Congress chief Adv Pratima Coutinho pointed out that while millions of people across the country had given up their subsidies for gas cylinders to allow the poor to get the benefit, the Modi-led government at the Centre was using the subsidies for its own benefits.

“Prices of gas cylinders have gone from Rs 752 in January, to almost Rs 900 today,” said Adv Coutinho, who, along with the Mahila Congress team, has been protesting price rise of gas cylinders for months now. Coutinho also reminded that the price of cylinders was Rs 770 in July, went up to Rs 840 in September, and had gone up to Rs 896 now.

The Mahila Congress also condemned the Goa government’s current situation calling it a “headless chicken.” “We deserve better governance. There are so many files that have to be cleared. Where are our ministers? It is time for them to intervene,” stated Coutinho.

She also said that it was a shame that for the first time in history, the Goa government was being run from hospital, and ministers had to go to Delhi for a State cabinet meeting.

Mahila Congress Vice-president Beena Naik said that the government was behaving in a very dictatorial manner which was a dangerous trend. “The administration is being run by a remote control, and even though so many youth are unemployed, the government’s promises are like castles in the air,” said Naik.
