GOACAN will launch ‘Back to Basics: Safe Buses, Safe Bus Stands for Goa’ an advocacy initiative for comfortable, affordable, safe and efficient bus transport.
The two year long initiative which will be launched on September 10 is part of the ongoing Road Safety and Traffic Management Campaign of GOACAN.
GOACAN Convenor Roland Martins said the advocacy initiative is being organized by them keeping in mind the end of the UN decade of action for road safety 2011-2020 and the constituting of the State Task Force on mobility by the Goa Government on the recommendation of NITI Aayog, New Delhi.
GOACAN in this initiative will organise discussions with village panchayat, municipal council road safety and traffic management committees, make proposals to the state and district road safety councils, district and state consumer protection councils, hold interactions with traffic wardens, Road Safety Patrols (RSP) and Parents and Teachers Associations (PTAs).
“We will also hold discussions with representatives of bus owners associations, officials of Kadamba Transport Corporation, officers of traffic police and directorate of transport with a view to make bus travel comfortable, affordable, safe and efficient for consumers. These discussions will also address the need to consider the action plan for clean transportation when taking decisions on purchase of new buses,” Roland said, adding, “through this initiative GOACAN will kick start exploratory visits to existing bus stands to understand the problems faced by various stakeholders and accordingly prepare recommendations for the new bus stands in Margao and Mapusa by consulting people with disabilities, senior citizens, women and students for their view points.”
The initiative will also highlight the need for last mile connectivity when preparing the transport component of the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) and the Strategy Document on mobility for smart towns and cities of Goa.
