Rejecting the demand from the Opposition to form a House Committee to probe alleged illegalities in Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ), Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai assured a thorough probe and action into the alleged illegal conversions of agricultural land resulting in CRZ violations in Mandrem constituency.
The assurance came in after Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte pointed out that huge areas of agricultural land have been illegally converted in the coastal belt of Mandrem,
resulting in CRZ
violations.
"I have several files which have the names and details of projects like conversation sanads and the specified areas of the projects also, while the details which have been given in the answer do not have the details which I have. What is the reason for this," questioned Sopte on the Floor of the House.
"There is no name and survey number of the project. These areas are not small areas of 200-300 square metres, but some are more than even 10,000 square metres," he pointed out.
Responding, the TCP Minister said, "We have not converted any land other than 16 A which concerns government projects. If the MLA feels that any project in his constituency has been granted technical clearance wrongly, we are ready to review it.
"In fact, I am ready to personally go and inspect it. We are ready to investigate into the project. You place all the details on the floor of the house."
Following the discussion, the Opposition MLAs demanded for a House Committee to be appointed to probe into the matter.
Declining the same, Sardesai said, "This is only pertaining to one Mandrem constituency. So there is no need for house committee."
Sardesai also pointed out that they have received two complaints of CRZ violation in Arambol which have been forwarded to the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA).
"In a reply to another question, I have said that there are illegal constructions in Survey No 162/10 and 70/9 of Arambol village which we have forwarded to GCZMA, which is a competent authority in CRZ," stated the TCP Minister.
Sopte also pointed out that in some cases permission has been sought in an individual's name, while the construction is started in a company's name.
Nonetheless, Sardesai also informed that there are cases of illegal sale of orchard land in CRZ areas.
"There is also sub-division happening illegally and also construction being carried out illegally. There are certain amendments to the Acts, the bills of which are being moved in the House. These will also act as a deterrent because we are trying to strike at the root of the issue which is that the lands are being converted illegally," said Sardesai.
