Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai conceded that he backed out of the anti-Mopa agitation launched by him under the Goemkar banner after then chief minister Manohar Parrikar charged him for leading the agitation with vested interests and to divide the people of Goa.
“Manohar Parrikar made a statement on the floor of the House that my agitation against Mopa is not genuine and is aimed at creating North-South divide. That time, Fr Eremito Rebello had launched an anti-Mopa movement under the banner of Goans For Dabolm Only. Since the agitation by GFDO was non-political, I decided to wind up the movement under Goemkar,” he said.
