“There’s been a debate on the proposal to have a separate municipal council for Fatorda. It now appears that Fatordekars have now realized that small is indeed beautiful and I will now take the proposal of having a separate Council for Fatorda to its logical conclusion,” Sardesai told the media.
That he is eying on the proposed construction of a modern wholesale fish market and the ultra-modern KTC bus stand at Fatorda to generate revenue for the proposed Fatorda Municipal Council is evident by the fact that the TCP Minister pointed out that Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar has put up a note to ensure that revenue generated from the new KTC bus stand by levying fees on outstation buses goes to the local civic body.
“I am confident that once constructed, the Rs 25 crore wholesale fish market and the multi-crore KTC bus stand would enrich the coffers of the new Fatorda Civic body,” Sardesai said, while apparently trying to silence critics who had raised doubts over the financial viability
of a new municipal council for Fatorda.
On the question of finding a successor for outgoing Margao Municipal Vice-Chairperson, Doris Texeira, who had quit the post last week, the TCP Minister said he is in favour of a consensus choice for the vacant post.
“I normally do not interfere in the affairs of the municipal body. Only when the city fathers seek my advice or guidance, I help them. It is for the City Fathers to forge a consensus,” he said.
The TCP Minister, however, dropped enough hints that he believes in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan Sabh ke Sath, Sabh ka Vikas, indicating that the Fatorda Forward may zero in on ST leader and senior councilor Tito Cardozo for the vacant post.
