Town and Country Planning Minister (TCP) Vijai Sardesai on Saturday strongly favoured return of the old practice of land conversions case by case instead of changing zones with a brush, as he underlined the need to stop the ghettoization taking place across the state.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a program organized by ACCE (I) Goa Chapter in the city here on Saturday, the TCP Minister came out clearly in favour of land conversions case by case to protect the interests of Goan people, saying that the Cabinet will soon take a call on the issue. "People from Delhi are getting their land converted by using the right connections, while Goans suffer. Outsiders use the right connections to get zones converted. The case by case conversion of land will bring all conversions in public domain. This is not the case of zones, which are painted recklessly by using the right connections," he said.
Sardesai demanded to know whether the state\'s infrastructure had collapsed because of the case by case conversion of land, saying the time has come to stop conversion of land in a secret manner.
Underlining the need to stop the ghettoization taking place across the, the TCP Minister has promised to come down heavily on illegal development of plots. "I have come across reports that plots are being developed in a remote forest area of Canacona. If this is not stopped immediately, Goa will decay," he said.
Earlier, addressing the engineers at the program, the TCP Minister said that the Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) concept will be the backbone of the new Regional Plan 2030. "The RP 30 will be aimed at preserving our fragile eco system, the khazan and low lying fields and the salt pans. Every property in Goa will be assigned the TDR rights, wherein the owners will be allowed to trade his development rights to developers in designated zones which will have sufficient infrastructure," he said.
