Former deputy chief minister and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on Sunday said that wrong policies of that state have resulted in migration to seek jobs.
“We will be responsible for the exodus. The exodus happens because of wrong policies,” Sardesai cautioned.
He said that those who migrate to other countries are not fools; they go as there are no opportunities here. “Youngsters are pillars of the future. But for that we need vision,” he said.
The Goa Forward chief was speaking during the awards function for meritorious students organized by Ponda First at Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir, Ponda.
Ponda First president Rajesh Verenkar, Dr. Raju Usgaonkar, Kalpesh Parkar and Sudesh Parodkar were also present on the occasion.
Taking potshots at BJP-led government in the state, Sardesai said that it doesn’t have even the data of ‘Goemkars’ working in the industrial area.
He said that concerned minister is speaking about the Investment Promotion Board, but he has no data.
“The policies and schemes should benefit sons of the soil. If they don’t have data of Goemkars working in industries, then what is the use of these policies, and who they will benefit,’’ Sardesai questioned.
Sardesai further said that we have a young nation and it should be led by young people.
“We need to harness the demographical dividend and our nation should be led by young people who are focused and educated,” he said, adding that the focus of the Goa Forward is local. “But our vision is global. We have capacity to absorb good things taking place in other countries.”
He also stressed on the need for educated politicians. “We need to create a generation of leaders that are ethically strong. We need to create good human beings. Knowledge economy is the thing of the present and the future,” he said.
Sardesai also suggested that Laadli Laxmi scheme be linked with education and not marriage.
“Don’t give ‘sarkari dowry’. Don’t dole out this scheme to the creamy layer. Link it to education, so it helps the poor,” he said.
Verenkar said that one should not be a job seeker, but a job creator. “Put your efforts in nation building. Overcome failures and choose the best path to succeed,” he said.
