MAPUSA

The gram sabha of Arpora-Nagoa has unanimously resolved to demand equal recognition for the Romi script alongside the Devanagari script for Konkani by amending Goa’s Official Language Act.

During the meeting, villagers voiced strong support for granting equal status to the Romi script, emphasizing its cultural and linguistic importance.

Sarpanch Roshan Redkar endorsed the resolution, stating that it reflected the collective will of the people.

“The Romi script holds deep significance for a large section of Goans. Granting it equal status will ensure inclusivity and respect for our linguistic heritage,” said a local resident at the meeting.

The resolution adds momentum to the demand for granting equal status to the Romi script in the State, with proponents arguing that it plays a crucial role in the state’s diverse cultural fabric.
