PONDA
They also lamented the lack of an industrial estate in their area. Gram sabha members also resolved to appoint a legal advisor to study the functioning of Ponda Municipal Council s garbage treatment plant at Keriyem-Khandepar. The gram sabha, presided by Sarpanch Deepa Naik, had a long discussion over the parking of trucks along the roadside. Though the issue was raised in the previous gram sabhas, Khandepar residents, Roque Dias and Santan Dias, on Sunday demanded action. “We had written several times to the regional transport office regarding the issue. They had asked us to show an alternate place for parking. We don t have any such place and hence locals have taken a resolution not to allow parking along the roadside,” Deepa Naik said. Panchayat Secretary Jitendra Naik along with the sarpanch and panch Nagesh Naik tried to calm the residents. According to Roque Dias, the panchayat is not getting any revenue from the parking, which is causing accidents. Why should we tolerate this illegal parking, which is creating several problems?” he questioned. Santan Dias said PMC wasn t treating garbage in a scientific manner at Keriyem-Khandepar. He said the site was emanating foul smell and is infested with flies. It may be recalled that BJP-backed panch Sandeep Khandeparkar last year said PMC was directly dumping garbage at Keriyem and not taking any measures to treat it. The sarpanch said PMC has resolved to appoint a legal advisor and it will look at treating garbage in a scientific manner so the villagers don t complain.
