MARGAO

Panic buying continues unabated in the commercial capital for the second day today, with citizens making a mad rush to the markets, departmental strores and wholesale and retail outlets to lay their hands on groceries and other items.

Some of the must-sought after shopping centres, such as the Sahakari Bhandar near the Old Collectorate building and a similar outlet at Colmorod-Navelim, witnessed a heavy rush of customers on Tuesday morning.

With customers laying their hands on groceries and toiletries, shops and establishments reported brisk sales of these goods. In fact, some of these items are believed to have disappeared from the shelves of the departmental stores due to the mad rush of citizens.

The New Market and the Gandhi Market also reported panic buying of provision items such as chilies, tamarind, onions etc. These items were normally purchased ahead of the monsoons.
