The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday said the State Election Commission (SEC) should take the responsibility of getting the voters out to vote in the ensuing Zilla Panchayat polls before an impression is created that it is playing into the hands of the ruling BJP.
AAP said it appeared that the State Election Commission had kept itself out of the fight against Coronavirus as the party’s letter to the State Election Commission seeking clarification on the conduct of the ZP elections instead of allowing political parties to do so had not evoked any response.
AAP had on Monday sought the intervention of the SEC in the light of BJP President Sadanand Tanavade’s unwarranted statement on safety of booths used for polling.
AAP leader Richard D’Sa said that SEC had maintained a stoic silence and had allowed the BJP to do all the talking. “SEC hasn’t addressed any media briefing despite apprehensions in the minds of the voters about the threat posed by the virus. SEC should take responsibility and get the voters to come out and vote. Otherwise, it will be assumed it playing into the hands of the BJP,” D’Sa added.
