Rane said that he was ‘shocked’ to note that no sooner he took over as health minister he found that the condition of the hospital was ‘critical’ and with stray dogs freely roaming in the campus.
“The condition of many units in the hospital are very critical. This will not be tolerated. I was shocked to see stray dogs moving freely in the campus,” he remarked.
He asked the heads of departments to move proposals for whatever requirements that are required to meet the medical services.
Reiterating government’s commitment to strengthen and provide all facilities at GMC, Rane admitted that workload at the hospital has increased manifold and emphasised to increase the registration counters before May 15 to avoid rush and queue of patients.
The meeting was arranged with HoDs to acquaint himself of the various difficulties being faced by doctors in the discharge of their duties and also to ascertain the facilities required for better services.
He however also asked the doctors not to prescribe medicines that were not available within GMC saying that
the patients coming for treatment are mainly poor and can’t afford the medicines from outside.
Dean, Goa Medical College Dr Pradeep Naik; Medical Superintendent Dr Savio Rodrigues; Director (Admn) GMC Sanjeev Gadkar, and Sunil Masurkar, Joint Secretary Health were also present on the occasion.
