Wary of the threat to public health posed by dengue, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane will on Tuesday chair a meeting of bureaucrats drawn from various departments in a bid to co-ordinate the efforts to fight the menace.
“Dengue cases are on the rise in the State. I have called a meeting of health officials, panchayat and Directorate of Municipal Administration on Tuesday,” Rane said in a video message circulated to the media.
Rane also said that last year one person has expired due to dengue but this year the dreaded disease has claimed four lives thus far out of which 3 had died of other complications.
He said, he has issued directions to health department to act strictly against public health related violations.
“We are trying to create a system to get day-to-day reporting of the dengue related cases in Goa. In every school fogging is done. Health department is taking all steps to counter the situation,” he said. He appealed to housing societies, school managements and MLAs to also take initiatives to counter the menace.
It may be recalled that the State till date has recorded 1,468 suspected dengue cases in the first nine months of the current calendar year with four deaths said to be attributed to the vector-borne disease.
