VALPOI
Bowing to public demands, the Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) declared a six-day lockdown in Valpoi town, while four other panchayats of Honda, Keri, Bhironda and Poriem in Sattari taluka also declared a five-day lockdown in their respective villages.
At a meeting attended by all the 10 council members on Wednesday, Chairperson, Shaizin Shaikh said the lockdown would be enforced from Thursday and shops mentioned under ‘essential category’ would remain open from 6am till 1pm.
“All shops marked under essential category will be open during a specified time and after 1 pm till 7pm, all establishments, public places, activities and services would remain closed.”
“Restaurants can offer home delivery services between 7 pm till 10 pm and no takeaway services will be allowed after that. Anyone violating these directives will be fined and their trade licenses are liable to be cancelled,” Shaikh said.
During the meeting, the councillors appealed to all grocery stores and shops marked as essential categories to stress more on home delivery services rather allowing people to visit their stores, to curb the movement of people.
VMC Councillor Ramdas Shirodkar said all medical stores will remain open in Valpoi town.
“Due to ongoing pre-monsoon work, the VMC will engage workers and contractors will be responsible to ensure that workers are provided pick-and-drop services to prevent unnecessary movement in the town,’ he said.
Shirodkar said the VMC will also set up a municipal team led by the market inspector and consisting of staff and police to monitor the situation in the town from Thursday.
