MARGAO
The oxygen concentrators received by the South Goa district hospital came in handy to provide relief to the growing number of patients in need of medical oxygen, even as the district hospital played host to 537 patients on Wednesday evening.
Officials manning the district hospital informed that the oxygen concentration dispatched by the government was put to immediate use for the benefit of the patients. “The oxygen concentrators came in handy for the hospital and provided great relief for the patients,” sources said.
The district hospital has been trying to manage the oxygen supply in the wake of the rising number of patients admitted inside. “We have been grappling to manage the oxygen supply to the hospital. The district hospital has an inbuilt system for supply of liquid oxygen. The Chief Minister during his visit to the district hospital had promised to put an oxygen generating plant at the hospital by installing a compressor under the PM Care Fund,” the official said, adding that all these measures will help oxygen supply to the patients in the coming days.
The district hospital has drawn up a plan to provide medical oxygen to the patients via the oxygen concentrators even before their admission in the hospital if they are found symptomatic and requiring immediate oxygen.
The official, however, said this plan will be executed only once the swab collection centre is shifted from the district hospital to some other place. “Once the swab collection centre is shifted, we will put to use the space currently occupied by the centre as per the two-tier plan suggested to attend to the patients,” the official added.
