VALPOI
The Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) on Monday decided to notify the long-pending traffic plan for Valpoi, in a bid to resolve the issue of traffic congestion in the town, especially in the market area.
This was decided at a special meeting chaired by VMC Chairperson Sahazin Shaikh, which was attended by councillors, some representatives of shopkeepers of Valpoi town and engineers from the VMC and PWD.
Traffic congestion has been a major problem in Valpoi town, the hub for all activity in Sattari, since the last many years. Residents and shopkeepers have also complained that the Valpoi market has been facing regular traffic jams for the last several years due to lack of a traffic plan.
They claimed that vehicles are parked on both sides of the road, causing traffic jams and the lack of parking space was also cited as another problem.
Since the last 10 years, the municipality has been trying to implement a traffic system for the town and several meetings had been convened in this regard.
In a bid to resolve the traffic problem, VMC Chairperson Sehzin Sheikh convened a meeting in the VMC hall to discuss the traffic plan.
Traffic Cell Police Inspector Sudesh Velip explained that until the plan is notified, no action can be taken against unruly motorists in the town.
The meeting later decided to notify the traffic plan and the VMC chairperson said efforts would be made to resolve all traffic problems.
Representatives of the Goa Bagayatdar outlet in Valpoi were requested to control vehicle parking outside the building.
Others present at the meeting inluded Councillors Ramdas Shirodkar, Prasanna Gawas, Vasaiddin Syed, Vinod Haldankar and Sharafat Khan, Municipal Engineer Jayesh Kalgutkar and PWD Junior Engineer Chandan Naik.
