What’s very important is that we have a non-corrupt MLA who is willing to work with the people. The BJP government has been doing what they can, but several problems remain. The village needs a better garbage management system, roads and drains. Agriculture too needs to be given a boost and it is recovering in many ways.

A lot of people are leaving the village simply because it is too expensive to live here without a proper job. Even those who have jobs have bought flats in Porvorim and Panaji. It is not known whether the situation will change. It’s either the BJP or Congress that wins, the AAP too does not have competent candidates who people can vote for.

The current MLA has just sat for 15 years and done nothing. We believe that the BJP is the hope. Off late there has been a move to boost agriculture with new techniques. We hope this can continue.

Corlim was once a very beautiful place. But now, it’s all a mess; illegal constructions are mushrooming in Corlim as well as in the Old Goa heritage area. I’m all in favour of protecting the Old Goa heritage area, but builders have taken over the lands. A lot of people have given their houses on rent to migrant labour which works at the Corlim industrial estate and there is no check on this.

The present MLA has given a lot of jobs and people have by and large backed him. That said there are several issues in Divar especially that of the deliberate flooding of the fields to catch fish by a few of the tide gate operators all illegally. Over the last four years, not much has changed in Divar.

A lot of buildings are coming up in the area without any provision for services and infrastructure. In a plot nearby they are building 18 flats on a 600 sq m plot. Garbage is already a big problem, earlier Syngenta used to take care of it. Now it is strewn on the streets.
