Saligao MLA Kedar Naik has said panchayats should take villagers into confidence while planning the development of their villages.
“It is not possible for the State government to undertake development activities in all villages and hence, panchayats should also plan the development of their villages,” said Naik.
He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the Children’s Park developed by Pilerne-Marra Panchayat at Nova Cidade Enclave in Porvorim. Others present on the occasion included Pilerne Sarpanch Sandeep Bandodkar, Panch members Amarnath Govekar, Karan Govenkar, Brenda Vaz, Roshna Rane, and a number of locals.
Panch member Karan Govenkar said the Children’s Park is his signature project for the ward which he had promised during the last panchayat election.
“This Children’s Park has been developed at a cost of Rs 71 lakh and it is equipped with WiFi facility, CCTV surveillance, outdoor gym equipment, yoga area, badminton court, sitting area, drip irrigation for plants and a stage for cultural events for residents,” said Govenkar.
Pilerne Sarpanch Sandeep Bandodkar lauded Govenkar for his initiative to develop the project.
“The panchayat has undertaken a number of development activities in the village. Besides, the panchayat is also conducting beauty, stitching and bakery courses for women so that they can stand on their own feet,” said Bandodkar.
Panch Member Amarnath Govenkar also spoke on the occasion.
