CANACONA
Amid continuous rains, a 20-metre portion of a compound wall at the proposed site of the Krishi Ghar at Sheller near Chaudi in Canacona collapsed on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
The Agriculture Department’s Canacona Zonal Office has now temporarily replaced the fallen wall with a green net to prevent entry of cattle and stray dogs loitering in the area.
It may be recalled that a foundation stone was laid to construct Krishi Ghar for farmers of Canacona to stock and sell their produce, including fruits and vegetables, besides housing the administrative block of Canacona Agriculture Office in October 2020. The construction of the Krishi Ghar is yet to begin to date.
It is learnt that the compound of this agricultural property, situated in a prime location, has been destroyed for the second time in the last few years.
Meanwhile, Canacona recorded 133.40 mm of rain on Sunday and 111.20 mm of rain on Monday, which caused flooding throughout the taluka.
The storage at Chapoli dam, often considered the lifeline of Canacona, has reached 906.18 ham with a reduced level (RL) at 36.48 Mtrs. Canacona taluka has almost received the seasonal rainfall of 1500 mm, according to sources.
