Water from a main pipeline began gushing out from the main pipeline near Hotel Green Park Junction at Guirim, disrupting traffic in the area and wasting vast amounts of water on Wednesday noon.
The incident took place around 12.30 pm, as the National highway has been widened at Green Park Junction by the contractor without shifting the underground water pipeline.
As a result, the valve remained underground and to resolve this problem, the PWD directed the contractor to undertake the work on Wednesday as the Assonora water treatment plant was shut down for repair work and restricted water supply was arranged for Bardez taluka.
Accordingly, the contractor drilled a hole in the pipeline with the help of a cutter.
As soon as this hole was made, water started gushing out with high pressure resulting in the disruption of traffic on the service road. Water pressure was reduced after about 45 minutes and the contractor resumed the work. But by then, vast quantities of water got wasted.
