Social worker and football enthusiast Warren Alemao organised the 2nd edition of his summer football camp, at Varca ground.
Running through the summer holidays, this initiative aims to nurture young talent and promote football at the grassroot level. According to Waren Alemao, the camp initiative was started a year back to promote a healthy lifestyle by introducing football to children during the holidays as a way to keep them physically active and to not succumb to the vacation spirit of playing online games and watching television.
This season saw a total of 380 participants which included both boys and girls from surrounding villages. The children were trained by men and women coaches who set up different programmes for the participants
Warren's organisation also reached out to the parents to inform them about suitable diets the children can adopt to have better stamina on the football ground.
The parents of the participants are kept in touch by the organisation through WhatsApp groups, through which they send information and suggestions. After every session, the coaches also spoke to the children to give their feedbacks.
Coached by- Luis Baretto, Allain D’Costa, Jeromina Colaco, Alicia Suzy Fernandes, Francis Fernandes, Valanka Souza, Malvita Mascarenhas, Jolvin D’Costa, Stacy Baretto, coaches of South Goa United spotted 10 players who will be awarded scholarship. They will get an opportunity to don colors with South Goa United and play in the GFA age group tournaments.
The chief guest for the concluding function was Antoneta Rodrigues, PE teacher of St Mary’s High School, Varca while Lenny Rodrigues, Odisha FC player and Jobern Cardozo, professional football player were the other guests.
