Social activist, Raghu Gaonkar had submitted a memorandum to the PWD demanding to repair the pipeline, but the authorities have failed to undertake the repair work.
According to the residents, Sawarde village is getting drinking water from Dabose water treatment plant since last couple of years. Some part of the pipeline was laid on the footbridge at Sawarde, but this old pipeline is repeatedly leaking.
"We have demanded replacing the old pipeline with a new one, but nothing has been done," said Raghu Gaonkar.
"the pipeline is leaking at several places and the villagers are facing water shortage, but the authorities are least bothered about the villagers' complaints," he added.
Another villager, Sagar Sawant said people are facing drinking water shortage, as taps are running dry even in the rainy season.
When contacted, Valpoi PWD (water supply) assistant engineer Paste assured to carry out repairs of the pipeline shortly. "Since this line is very old, it requires urgent replacement and the proposal has been sent to the department," said Paste.
