The newly-constituted Hospicio Hospital Visiting Committee has realised that a number of post, including the medical officers, bio-chemists and group IV employees are lying vacant in the Hospicio hospital.
This became evident on Wednesday when TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai along with the newly-constituted Hospicio visiting panel headed by Dr Venkatesh Hegde reviewed the situation at Hospicio hospital. Hospicio Medical Superintendent Dr Aira Almeida attended the meeting.
The meeting took stock of the manpower shortage, including the five medical officers as well as the system followed by the Directorate of Health services, wherein medical officers and consultants from Hospicio are drafted to health centres in Salcete and outside, thus affecting the services at the hospital.
The shortage of 35 class IV employees also figured at the meeting, wherein it was decided to take up the matter with the Health Minister for redressal. "The issue concerning the deputation of Hospicio doctors to other health centres is a mater of concern when Hospicio is a referral hospital, wherein patients from across South Goa are referred for treatment", Vijai Sardesai told the media after the meeting.
The issue of mortuary and post mortem examinations carried out at Hospicio was taken up for discussions. After taking stock of the situation, members raised the question as to why post mortem examinations are not carried out at the T B Hospital atop Monte Hill when the mortuary unit is not located there. "This matter will also be referred to the government for appropriate action since most of the members felt that since the mortuary unit is located at the T B Hospital, the autopsies should also take place at Monte Hill", Vijai said.
The vacant post of neuro surgeon and ICU was reviewed at the meeting when members referred to accidents victims being rushed to
Hospicio from Salcete and down south.
