Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Mayor Uday Madkaikar on Friday announced that the long pending issue of wet garbage in the capital city would be solved once the works on 14 biodigesters are completed and the plants commissioned.
The Mayor further stated that in the current scenario, around 45 tonnes of wet garbage is generated on an average daily in the Panaji.
He also said that out of the 14 biodigesters, four have already been commissioned and that, the remaining biodigesters will be commissioned soon.
The Mayor was of the view that, with the commissioning of all the biodigesters and the Bainguinim garbage treatment plant, the garbage problem of Panaji would be tackled permanently.
Addressing a press conference in the city on Friday, Madkaikar gave a detailed account of what he did in his tenure of last two years.
"There is no allegation of corruption in two years of tenure and that, the city has come high in the list from 300th position to 200th and there are chances that city will come in the list of first 100 cities in the ranking," said the Mayor exuding confidence.
He said that during his current tenure he was successful in arresting the flooding of the city due to heavy rains during monsoon. "This year less flooding took place despite record breaking downpour," he said.
Adding more to his success story, the CCP Mayor said that, during the lockdown period as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, his team managed to reach to maximum people with whatever aid possible.
Also during the water crisis, the CCP managed to supply water through tankers to the city, he added.
The Mayor informed that the management of the EDC area in Patto Panaji would now be carried out by the CCP which includes cleaning and also collection of parking fees.
Madkaikar also said that he was successful in collecting more revenue from casino owners vis-a-vis the hoardings.
On the city market front, the Mayor said the encroachments have been successfully removed and also the process of signing lease agreement is in progress.
