I have no problem if the tourism industry feels that no more money should be spent on promotions and the same should instead be spent elsewhere, Chairman of the Goa Tourism Development Corporation Nilesh Cabral said.
The GTDC which is the primary tourism spending agency of the government in areas of tourism infrastructure and promotion has said that if the sentiment was industry-wide, he would have no problem cancelling promotional events altogether.
He said that the calendar for next financial year was already finalised and that changes, reduction or cancellation as sought by the TTAG would become effective only in the following financial year.
“The TTAG has representation in all the three tourism boards. They needn’t mention it to the CM. They can tell us directly,” Cabral said in response to the TTAG’s pre-budget document. “If other operators too feel the same we have no problem cancelling promotions. After all promotions are being done so that the industry benefits,” Cabral said.
