Concerned that the Garbage Treatment Plant (GTP) in Dumane-Canacona had turned into a health hazard with the flow of leachate into nearby water bodies and paddy fields, Deputy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes said he would direct the Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) to take immediate action to resolve the issue.
“I will direct the CMC chief officer to immediately visit the GTP and take measures to stop the flow of leachate into nearby water bodies,” he said.
“At present, I am in Panaji due to party and board-related meetings, but I will inspect the GTP as soon as possible to take stock of the situation.”
“We cannot allow leachate to flow into water bodies and this must stop, otherwise it will seriously affect public health,” added Fernandes.
