Having assisted the Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) on two occasions to treat and clear huge garbage dumps, the Canacona-based NGO ‘Goenkar’ has decided to take legal action against the CMC in the National Green Tribunal (NGT) for the uncovered, unsegregated and untreated dumps at the Garbage Treatment Plant (GTP) in Dumane-Canacona.
“Despite CMC's lackadaisical attitude on the garbage issue in Canacona, we have maintained cordial relations and helped operate the GTP in Dumane, even to the extent of clearing and cleaning the garbage by baling several tonnes of garbage,” Goenkar President Jack Fernandes told The Goan.
“But it has become habitual for the CMC to allow the GTP to turn into a health hazard. We will soon petition the NGT for the mess regularly created by CMC at the Dumane GTP," Fernandes said.
