Will examine steps to regularise building: Reis Magos sarpanch

PORVORIM
Stating that the panchayat respects the High Court’s judgement on the Panchayat building, Reis Magos Sarpanch Sushmita Pednekar said the building was constructed for public benefit and steps can be examined to regularise the structure if possible.

“The panchayat building has been constructed for public benefit and panchayat members do not have any personal interests in the project. The panchayat constructed this building within the limited space available. The office is located on the ground floor and hence there is no problem for persons with disabilities to enter the office,” said Pednekar.

The sarpanch said the panchayat would consult its lawyer and take further action.

“In the meantime, the panchayat has been advised by legal experts that as per provisions of Panchayat Raj Act and Rules, the panchayat can take steps to regularise the building. We are going to examine these provisions too.”

Saligao MLA Kedar Naik said the panchayat has to go by the judgement of the High Court.

“They have to examine the provision of Panchayat Raj act and if the regularisation is permissible then they can regularise the construction completing the necessary formalities. After all, the building is for the use of common people and the panch members do not have any vested interest in the building,” said Naik.
