Sitting in the opposition for his second successive term, Kavlekar is aware that questions are now being asked about the future of the projects in the constituency; however, he is confident that he will use his position as opposition leader to pursue development.
“During the previous tenure of the BJP-led government, many projects in Quepem constituency were held up due to financial crunch or may be due to lack of attention from the BJP government.”
“But this time as Leader of the Opposition, I will raise issues of Quepem constituency. I will make sure to complete all projects in progress and begin those proposed in Quepem constituency,” he said .
When reminded that a number of his key projects are either incomplete or yet to start, Kavlekar provided an update on the projects in Quepem constituency.
“The water pipeline and JICA pipeline project is in progress to tackle the water scarcity. Water tanks of larger capacity are being built in Barcem. The Ambaulim-Diao playground has been a long pending demand and a work order is yet to be given, but it will start shortly,” he said.
Commenting on the new fish and vegetable market proposed in Quepem town, Kavlekar said, “Most of the procedures have been completed and the foundation stone will be laid shortly. Work on the project will then begin.”
Aware that the proposed Taak-Shirvoi bazaar bypass did not find mention in Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s budget speech, Kavlekar informed that land had been acquired for the project. “However, the government has not taken any interest in this issue,” claimed Kavlekar.
Regarding the upgradation of the Quepem Police station, Kavlekar said the necessary procedures had been completed. “The work order will be given and work will start.”
The opposition leader admitted that work was yet to start on the beautification of the Cabo-de-Rama fort and six beaches in Quepem constituency, even though two consultants were appointed.
Concern over lack of progress in Quepem
CURCHOREM: Concerned that projects in Quepem constituency could be neglected as local MLA Babu Kavlekar is in the opposition for the second successive term, Quepem Municipal Council Chairman Raul Pereira hoped that development will take place in the constituency.
“Since the past many years, Quepem constituency is neglected and underdeveloped. Kavlekar was in the opposition during the previous BJP-led government and Quepem remained neglected. This time too, Kavlekar is the Leader of the Opposition.”
“The BJP should not neglect Quepem and the State government should accord equal attention to all talukas,” said Pereira.
