MARGAO: Asserting that no one can point an accusing finger at him on the development front, sitting Navelim Independent MLA Avertano Furtado on Thursday made a fervent plea to Navelkars to give him another five year term, promising that he would call it a day in politics after completing the pending works.
Flanked by Navelim sarpanch Frank Fernandes, Rumdaml Panch Pooja Badekar and a resident of Rumdamol Aslam Bijapu, the sitting MLA said that he would not contest any more elections after completing all development works if given an opportunity to represent the people for another term.
Avertano pointed out that he is one MLA who has completed almost all the promises made in the 2012 election manifesto. He, however, pointed out that many works, which has been initiated in the last five years, are either underway or will start after the code of conduct is lifted after the election. I have concentrated to provide basis amenities, including a health center-cum-bedded hospital, with facilities for doctors and medicines and nurses,” he said.
The first-time MLAs said that around seven indoor stadiums in the constituency have been taken up for development, adding that work on the indoor stadium will commence after the election. “I want to complete these projects in the next five years if I am given another term to represent the people in the coming election,” Avertano said, while disclosing his plans not to seek reelection again after completing the pending works.
Both Pooja and Aslam pointed out that people of Rumdamol Housing Board would all rally behind Avertano in the February 4 election.

All the major contenders for the Navelim seat concluded their election campaigns with public meetings on Wednesday, with State Congress president Luizinho Faleiro mounting a scathing attack on the Independents, terming them as agents and dalals of the BJP.
Addressing an impressive meeting in his stronghold, the Rumdamol Housing Board on Wednesday, Faleiro said the BJP is not in the fray in the ensuing election for the Navelim seat, but the party has fielded its agents to divide the secular vote. “Why are so many Independents contesting the election from Navelim. It’s very clear that the agenda is only to split the secular vote. We do not want a government which want to decide on what to eat and dress,” he said.
Saying that the Housing Board has gone backward by almost a decade after his exit from Navelim constituency, Faleiro has promised to make the Rumdamol Housing Board a model housing board in the State. “The roads, water and power supply will be taken care of after the election. Before my exit, I had acquired over a lakh square meter of land at Davorlim, which remains unutilized till date. This land will be used for higher education by setting up engineering colleges”, he assured the people, while thanking the people of the Housing Board for rallying behind him during his tenure as the MLA of Navelim constituency.
At Navelim village, Independent candidate Avertano Furtado had his meeting, wherein he and other leaders, including BJP leader Ulhas Tuemkar highlighted the developments works ushered in by the ruling party in the last five years.
The Goa Forward party-backed Independent candidate Cipru Cardozo also had his meeting behind the Navelim Church, which was amongst others, addressed by Cipru and chief spokesman of Goa Forward Party Prashant Naik, who made a plea to Navelkars to cast their vote for the independent candidate.
