Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday said that the State government is planning to seek exemptions on the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order banning approvals to projects till the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) is finalised.
Speaking on the Floor of the House, Parrikar said, "It was a recent direction by NGT that till the coastal management plan is finalised there should not be any approval given for any project. If needed, we will approach the NGT to amend this order

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday said that the State government is planning to seek exemptions on the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order banning approvals to projects till the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) is finalised.
Speaking on the Floor of the House, Parrikar said, "It was a recent direction by NGT that till the coastal management plan is finalised there should not be any approval given for any project. If needed, we will approach the NGT to amend this order
so that it is not applicable for certain important projects and may be decided on a case to case basis."
"If required, we will approach any legal forum also. But even then, that restriction is only up to March-April and we are sure of completing our documentation by that time," said Parrikar.
Meanwhile, the Fisheries Department will call a joint meeting with Mormugao Port Trust, canoe owners, Vasco MLA and others concerned on December 20 to discuss concerns regarding the fishing jetty at Vasco.
"We will be calling a joint meeting with MPT and the canoe boat owners association to discuss various issues pertaining to the fishing jetty at Vasco," informed Fisheries Minister Vinoda Paliencar.
The assurance was given by Paliencar on the Floor of the House after Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida sought to know the facilities proposed under the project like how many trawlers would be there and how many fishing agents would operate from the jetty.
"The role of the state government is limited to providing funds of Rs 26 crore. When it came to funding, it was decided that the central government would provide 50 per cent funding, MPT would give 25 per cent and Goa government would provide the remaining 25 per cent. The other details are being looked after by MPT," informed Paliencar.
Coming to the rescue of the Fisheries Minister, Parrikar also assured to expedite the work on conducting a public hearing on the project.
"You cannot expect the Minister to know all the technical details particularly when the project is being executed by MPT though it is for the benefit of the State. GSPCB conducts public hearing for the purpose of EIA. I will tell them to expedite the process. There is no operational control of MPT on this jetty and MPT will only construct the jetty for us," informed Parrikar.
