PONDA: PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar on Monday assured to seek an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi by January 16 for a resolution to the mining issue.
Dhavalikar was speaking to a large number of mining dependents who had gone to his house to know about the status of Dhavalikar's appointment with the prime minister.
When Dhavalikar told the Goa Mining People's Front (GMPF) that he would seek an appointment with the Prime Minister by January 16, the GMPF warned that they would march again to his house on January 17, if the appointment was not sought.
Speaking to the GMPF members outside the Mahalaxmi premises in Bandora, Dhavalikar reiterated his full support to the resumption of mining activity.
"If Dhavalikar fails to get an appointment with the PM, we will return to his house on January 17," GMPF Convenor Puti Gaonkar told the media.
“The minister has also promised to write to the PMO to allow a representation of GMPF, comprising Vinayak Gauns and myself, to meet the PM,” Gaonkar added.
Gaonkar also stated that they would meet Goa's MPs on January 10.
Goa Suraksha Manch leader Subhash Velingkar, Santosh Sawant of Goa Forward and others were also present on the occasion.
A heavy police force was deployed at the site to avert any law and order problems.
