Will Sonsodo trash be trashed by April 2017?

The Clean Margao Green Margao movement, an initiative of Rajendra Talak and Madgavkars, have set April 2017 as the deadline for the Margao Municipal Council to resolve the Sonsodo mess, even as Talak has again knocked on the doors of the civic body seeking permission to start door-to-door waste collection from Comba ward as a pilot project.
Talak said he has not yet decided whether he would be contesting the forthcoming Assembly election, but added that he has said a firm no to the offer received from the Aam Admi Party to join the party.
Addressing the media on the completion of Clean Margao Green Margao’s first phase of cleanliness exercise in the SGPDA retail market, Talak said the second phase of the project would get underway soon in more areas including Aquem and Colmorod.
Talak lamented that the Margao Municipal Council has till date not replied to the letter dated February 9, 2016, expressing his intention to start door-to-door dry waste collection from the Comba ward. “The Collection of garbage is not improving in Margao. Hence, it will be appropriate to start our pilot project in Comba area,” he said in his letter to MMC Chairperson Babita Prabhudesai.
On the Sonsodo mess, Talak pointed that since the Margao Municipality has entered into an agreement with Fomento Green to tackle the waste problem, the private player should be allowed to resolve the problem. “If the MMC cannot solve the Sonsodo problem by next April, we will have to tell them how to address the issue,” he added.
Replying to a question, Talak said the Clean Margao Green Margao has spent around Rs 1.25 crore on the cleanliness and beautification works, adding that the plan to install gantries in the city will soon take shape.
