Winds blow roofs away in Canacona

Strong winds caused several trees to come crashing down and roofs to blow away in Canacona on Friday.

According to fire services, a tree got uprooted and fell on the pump house at Kajalkar in Loliem, while a tree fell on the road near Narayan temple at Shiroti-Khola, blocking the traffic till it was cut and cleared by fire personnel.

By afternoon, yet another tree came crashing down on the road, blocking traffic at Mangan near the Bailey bridge.

In the meanwhile, a fire tender rushed to extinguish the fire at a water pump at Sartik Apartments.

Later in the evening, strong winds caused havoc in Agonda village with several people claiming their rooftops blown off. A tall coconut tree fell, partially damaging two kiosks and a parked goods pick-up at Dessaiwada-Agonda.

While the two kiosks had their front portions damaged and the pickup suffering damages to its body, a Bhelpuri gadda along with people narrowly missed the coconut tree fall.

PANAJIThe rain fury in Goa persisted on Friday, leading to a significant number of calls to the Fire Control Room.
