The rain fury in Goa persisted on Friday, leading to a significant number of calls to the Fire Control Room. On Thursday alone, around 113 calls were attended to, primarily concerning incidents of trees/branches crashing down.
In the past 15 days till July 6, the Fire officials have attended 618 meteorological calls out of a total of 731, the maximum being in the Northern interiors and the beach belt.
On Friday, the highest eight calls originated from Bicholim whereas Tiswadi and Sattari followed closely with seven and four calls, respectively. Bardez and Ponda had two cases each, and Salcete reported one incident. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
The State is also witnessing road accidents, mostly due to rain. On Friday morning, a self-accident led to the death of a naval employee in Vasco. A major breach in the bundh at Cava Khazan in Chorao also surfaced, which led to flooded roads.
Numerous roads remain submerged under water, and fields are also inundated. Incessant rainfall this week has also led to cracked roads and numerous potholes.
