With Ms Real Mazon bracing up to resume High Security Registration Plates (HSRPs) at the Arlem RTO office, citizens made it clear to the RTO officials as well as the agency representatives that all directions issued by the district Collector, South, Ajit Roy concerning the amenities for the vehicle owners should be implemented in toto.
Assistant Transport Director Prakash Kholkar accompanied by RTO officials descended at the RTO Arlem office when the representatives of the HSRP brought to their notice the arrangements put in place for resumption of the operations.
During inspection, it was found that the agency has now made arrangements for four counters, two general and one each for ladies and the handicapped. However, the pandal was not in place to cover the vehicle owners from the scorching sun. While the agency promised the RTO officials to make arrangements for drinking water supply, the provision for toilet blocks for ladies and gents was conspicuous by their absence.
A group of citizens, who were around the spot, told the RTO officials to adhere to the directions issued by the district Collector, South, to avoid any further law and order problem.
While the agency assured the RTO officials to make seating arrangements for the senior citizens at the venue, citizens pointed out that no compromise should be made on the Collector’s directions, including the direction that Quepem work should not be taken up in Margao till all the vehicles from Salcete are covered by the HSRP plates.
A representative of the agency said they will not accept Quepem vehicles for HSRP fitment at Arlem. Moreover, he assured that the HSRP fitment will be regulated via the SMS messages and not more than 50 fitments will be taken up on any given day.
Assistant Transport Director Kholkar later told the HSRP agency that the RTO would give the permission for resumption of the operations after another round of inspection of the amenities.
