Party leader and media head Rupesh Shinkre and Ranjit Carvalho told the media that AAP has received overwhelming response from the people of Cuncolim. “The party will win the seat in the 2017 election,” they said confidently.
When asked whether the party will field Elvis Gomes for the Cuncolim seat as is widely perceived in political circles, Shinkre replied, “Whether it’s Elvis or someone else, our work is going on in full swing. We will win the Cuncolim seat. We will see that AAP wins in Cuncolim”.
Ranjit Carvalho pointed out that Cuncolim constituency will have two offices, one in Cuncolim and other at Cavorim-Chandor, as per the demand of the people. “Our second office in Cuncolim constituency will be opened later this month, which will take care of the party work in Chandor and Guirdolim and other villages,” he said.
Replying to a question, Shinkre pointed out though the recent poll survey has shown AAP leading in Goa, he said the party leadership will work hard in order to garner more than 50 per cent vote share. “The survey showed that AAP will get around 35 per cent vote share, but we are determined to cross the 50 per cent mark. We will not rest till AAP crosses the figure,” Shinkre said.
Replying to another question, he said that the party will take up burning issues such as drugs, corruption, education, etc., for discussion so that they find a mention in the election manifesto.
Saying that AAP will contest in all the 40 Assembly seats, Shinkre said the party will unveil the first list of 10 candidates by the second week of September. “We have almost finalized these 10 candidates following recommendation from our workers. Care has been taken to ensure that our candidates will be competent, corruption free and have character. We want to announce the candidates early so that they can start their work in the constituency head on,” Shinkre added.
Says no to Marathi as official
language, still studying MoI
CANACONA: AAP said the party will not allow any amendment to the Goa Official Language Act to make Marathi the official language, even as the party reiterated it is studying the contentious MoI issue.
AAP Goa state convenor Rajeshree Nagarsekar, who was in Canacona to oversee the finalisation of party manifesto, said, “Our party will strongly oppose any government move to make any amendment to the Goa Official Language Act to make Marathi the official language. Everyone knows Konkani is the language of Goans and it will be protected at all cost.” Replying to another question, Nagarsekar said the party is still studying the contentious issue of MoI and will accordingly inform the people about the party’s stand soon.
Meanwhile, a strong crowd from all over the constituency turned up to give their suggestions for finalisation of AAP’s election manifesto for Canacona constituency.
The participants suggested improvement in water supply, electricity, road network, garbage, health sector, end to corruption, day-care centre and old-age home for senior citizens, proper maintenance of KTC bus stand, etc.
