MARGAO
Beleaguered investors of a private investment company are keeping their fingers crossed over the return of their hard-earned money estimated around Rs 15-18 crore, with the company head hailing from Gujarat not showing up in the offices based in Goa.
What, however, has further left the investors from Goa, numbering around 2,000, agitated is the attitude of the law enforcement agencies, who have to date not registered an FIR against the company and the head for the failure for duping them with their deposits.
Addressing the media, city-based lawyer, Adv Amay Prabhudesai lamented that the Goa police have to date refused to register an FIR in the case against the company and its head.
“I along with the investors had first gone to the Margao police with a complaint but were directed to approach the Economic Offenses cell. When we went to the Economic Offenses Cell, the officers told us to compile a list of documents before they could start the investigations,” Amay said.
He, however, lamented that the Economic Offenses cell has not registered the FIR to date, leave alone the investigations in the case.
“We are in a Catch-22 situation. Neither is the Margao police willing to register a case nor the Economic Offenses cell investigating the case. We are in a quandary on how to go about the situation,” he said.
To a question, the city-based lawyer said that an amount to the tune of Rs 15-18 crore is at stake as the company head from Gujarat has stopped coming to the offices.
“The investors have fallen prey to the huge interests offered by the person from Gujarat. The investors were given a tempting offer of providing 30 per cent interest on an amount of Rs one lakh. To gain the confidence of the investors, the head used to return the money, only luring the investors to reinvest the money back in the company,” he added.
Left with no option, the investors now plan to send a detailed memorandum to the Prime Minister’s Officer with a plea to intervene and help the return of their hard-earned deposits.
