Raw sewage continued to gush out of the overflowing chamber in the Margao Municipal building passage, but there seemed no urgency on the part of the Margao City Fathers, Municipal babus or PWD officials in-charge of sewerage to plug the flow.
While Municipal officials sought to blame the PWD by saying the sewage chamber is overflowing because of back water due to blockage of the underground line, PWD has not yet started the work of unclogging the underground line.
Tuesday saw raw sewage coming out from the overflowing chamber and accumulating at the side drain, emitting foul sewage odour in the vicinity. If the sewage chamber was overflowing throughout the morning, the situation was no different in the evening, indicating that no agency is on the job to plug the sewage or unclog the underground line.
Even as MMC officials sought to lay the blame at the doorsteps of the PWD, questions are being raised why the civic body could not get the PWD to initiate the necessary action and give relief to the public.
A youngster told The Goan that he has stopped visiting the municipal library since the last few days as sewage odour has enveloped the entire area because of the overflowing chambers.
A cobbler eking a living on the MMC building passage temporarily shifted his place of activity as he could not sustain the unbearable odour. His colleagues made a fervent plea to the concerned authorities to rectify the fault and given the much needed relief since their place of activity is just two meters away from the overflowing chamber.
A tourist taxi operator showed the media how the overflowing raw sewage have all accumulated on the roadside drain, posing nuisance and a health hazard.
