Woman dies after hit by football in freak mishap at Mapusa

A 53-year-old woman from Karnataka but residing in Morjim died of injuries in a freak mishap after she was accidentally struck by a football while riding a scooter at Mapusa.

The accident took place on 31 May at around 12 noon, when Yallamma Basavaraj Lakkundi was on a two-wheeler along with her son-in-law proceeding from Morjim to Mapusa.

As they reached in front of the sports ground in Ganeshpuri-Mapusa, some children were playing football on the field and the football accidentally struck Lakkundi, causing her to fall off the two-wheeler.

She sustained serious injuries in the mishap and was first shifted to Mapusa District Hospital before being referred to GMC hospital in Bambolim. 

She died while undergoing treatment on Monday. Mapusa police conducted an inquest into the accident, and further investigation is in progress.
