Schools across the State are set to reopen today for the new academic year after the summer holidays. While students of Classes VI to X and XII had already started their year in April, Classes I to V will begin their new term from June 4.

With schools starting, parents and children are busy with the usual preparations—buying new uniforms, notebooks, textbooks, stationery, raincoats or umbrellas, and waterproof footwear.

Markets are seeing crowds of families shopping for school essentials.

From this year, the National Education Policy (NEP) has been rolled out for Classes III, VI and X.

Earlier, NEP changes were introduced for Class IX and Foundation Stage Two (the second year of preschool at age 4). Before that, the NEP was started for Foundation Stage One (preschool entry at age 3) and Class VIII.

To follow the NEP schedule, Classes VI to X and XII began their academic year on April 7, had a summer break in May, and will now continue with their first term until October 15. Their second term will run from November 4 to March 24, 2026. Other classes will continue with the usual schedule, with the year ending in March.

The Ganesh Chaturthi holidays will be from August 26 to September 1. The Diwali break will be from October 16 to November 3, and the Christmas vacation will be from December 24 to January 2.
