Police conduct a panchanama on the tracks where the woman’s body was recovered near the Canacona KRC station.
CANACONA
The severed body of a young woman was found on the Konkan Railway tracks, above 150 metres from the Canacona Railway station on Tuesday morning.
Railway police collected the body and after conducting a panchnama, sent the body to the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), Margao for a post-mortem examination.
According to sources, the incident took place at about 8 am when a goods train proceeding from Karwar side was on its way in the Margao direction.
The train driver reportedly noticed the woman lying on the tracks at the last moment and applied brakes, but as the train was proceeding a substantial speed, it failed to halt and ran over the woman.
Railway police suspect the woman may have committed suicide by coming under the train.
Sources informed the woman appeared to be in her early thirties, was wearing a saree not typical to Goan style and had colourful bangles on her hands, giving an indication that she was not from Goa.
