Strongly defending the proposed Film City, Loliem-Polem Comunidade President Vishwajit Warik has said the mega project will generate thousands of jobs, as well as opportunities to local artistes, folk groups and students.

Warik said the Director of Information and Publicity had signed an MoU with the Comunidade of Loliem-Polem on June 25 to develop 10 lakh sq. mtrs of barren and rocky land on Bhagwati Plateau into a vibrant Film City for the State.

The MoU signed between Department of Information and Publicity Director Deepak Bandekar and Warik states that 10 lakh sq. mtrs of land will be leased for a period of 90 years in Survey No 63/1, popularly called Agshot, which is on one side of Bhagwati Plateau, to set up the Film City by the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG).

According to Warik, the Comunidade will get a 1 crore deposit with Rs 70 lakh per annum.

“Agshot is on one side of Bhagwati plateau and is nowhere near the Bhagwati temple, which critics claim will be impacted if the Film City comes on Bhagwati plateau,” Warik said.

“A DPR is already prepared and besides providing between 3000-5000 direct and indirect employment to locals, the Film City will give an additional daily wage work to local artistes, folk groups, students for performances in films, etc.”

“The Film City will begin with the opening of a Film Academy extending technical and non-technical courses, besides generating a lot of other avenues to the local community.”
