A major water pipeline running alongside the roadside at Guirim was accidentally damaged on Tuesday, resulting in a dramatic fountain of water erupting from the site and causing temporary inconvenience to motorists and pedestrians.
The 1000 mm main pipeline, which supplies water to the Porvorim-Saligao area, was reportedly hit by a JCB machine engaged in clearing work near the site.
The impact caused a valve on the pipeline to rupture, leading to significant water wastage and raising concerns about potential disruption in supply.
PWD Assistant Engineer Rohidas Naik confirmed that the damage was limited to a valve, which was repaired within two hours of the incident.
“The water supply will not be affected. There may be a delay in timing, but all residents will receive their supply,” he assured.
Traffic movement was affected briefly, particularly for pedestrians and two-wheeler riders, due to the water gushing from the broken pipeline.
Authorities acted swiftly to contain the situation and restore normalcy.
