The Bharatiya Janata Party Mahila Morcha on Tuesday held a 'Jan-Aakrosh Mahila Padyatra' in Panaji to protest against the opposition INDI Alliance over its alleged opposition to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam (Women’s Reservation Bill).
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that if the bill is implemented, 13 out of 40 Assembly seats in Goa would be reserved for women. “At present, we have only three women MLAs. In fact, only one seat is reserved for women. If the bill comes into forc
e, the 2027 elections could see 13 women legislators, along with stronger representation in the State Cabinet,” he said.
Sawant also criticised opposition parties, including the Indian National Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, All India Trinamool Congress, and Samajwadi Party, accusing them of opposing the law and denying women greater political representation. BJP MLAs Deviya Rane and Delilah Lobo were present at the protest. The participants marched to the Congress office, where they staged a demonstration.
