In a surprising revelation, Power Minister, Pandurang Madkaikar, has informed that there are 38 women meter readers in the state, but they don't read meters.
Madkaikar provided this information while responding to a question tabled by Quepem MLA, Chandrakant ‘Babu' Kavlekar, in Assembly.
Most women meter readers were recruited by the electricity department way back in 1996 and 1997. However, two women meter readers were recruited in January this year as well. Madkaikar further informed that women meter readers are posted in the divisional offices and are entrusted with the billing work in the office. This is the reason that they are not deployed for field work to take reading
of meters.
