CANACONA
Nagar Van, a centre of entertainment, education and research is coming up in the precincts of Chapoli Dam in Canacona. Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, in the presence of Dy Speaker, Goa Forest Development Corporation Chairman and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes laid the foundation stone and unveiled a plaque to mark commencement of works of beautification of Nagar Van in an land admeasuring 50 hectares located in the downstream of Chapoli Dam.
The Nagar Van will have a walking track, meditation area, landscape garden and lawn, open gym and children's play equipment, medicinal garden, nakstra van, watch tower, trees and shrubs.
According to GFDC sources, Nagar Van will have further facilities like nature trails, signages, interactive units to provide information, drinking water, mini waterfall, sale counter, toilets, shelter for visitors (Pagodas), parking area amongst a few more facilities.
Forest sources further informed the amin purpose of this project is to spread awareness amongst various stakeholders and especially locals to preserve this pristine landscape, natural forest and its wild inhabitants for posterity.
The project is financed under CAMPA fund scheme (MoEF & CC and GOI) in the 35 hectares of Reserve Forest land and 15 hectares of land under Water Resources Department.
Forest Department Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Pankaj Asthana, IFS, GFDCL Managing Director Santosh Kumar, GFDC General Manager Nandkumar Parab, ZP(Khola) Shanu Velip, Shrishthal panchayat Sarpanch Pandurang G Gaonkar, panch members, GFDCL and Forest Department Range Forest Officers and staff were also present.
